The Bolden Hour

Life has a strange way of giving us moments.
Moments where something inside us says “go on… do it.”
But at the exact same time another voice says, “maybe not… maybe later.”
Most of us know that feeling. Standing at the edge of something new, unsure whether to take the step forward or stay where it feels safe.
That moment- right there in between hesitation and action- is what I’ve started calling The Bolden Hour.
It’s the moment where you choose courage over comfort.
Not necessarily something dramatic or life-changing. In fact, most Bolden Hours are surprisingly small. But they carry weight because they ask something of us. They ask us to trust ourselves, even when we’re unsure.
Heavy Days is a brand built around the idea that life isn’t always easy. We all experience days that feel heavier than others. Days where motivation is low, confidence dips and the path ahead isn’t clear.
But alongside those heavy days, there are also moments where we push forward anyway.
Moments where we decide to try.
Moments where we take a chance.
Moments where we step outside the safe, familiar version of ourselves.
Those are Bolden Hours.
What I hope The Bolden Hour becomes
The Bolden Hour isn’t just an idea. It’s something I hope becomes part of the Heavy Days community.
A place where people can share stories about the moments they decided to be brave- even when it felt uncomfortable.
Not perfect moments.
Not heroic moments.
Just real ones.
Because courage often shows up in ordinary ways.
A Bolden Hour might look like this
Sending a message you’ve been rewriting for days.
Applying for a job you don’t feel ready for.
Starting the project you’ve been thinking about for months.
Speaking honestly when it would be easier to stay quiet.
Walking away from something that no longer feels right.
Moving somewhere new.
Trying something that might not work.
Choosing to follow your own path instead of the one expected of you.
In other words, marching to the beat of your own drum.
The truth about courage
Courage rarely feels comfortable.
Most of the time it feels uncertain. Awkward. Maybe even a little bit frightening.
But those moments are also where growth tends to live.
They are the moments that slowly shape the direction of our lives.
A conversation.
A decision.
A first step.
Why this matters for Heavy Days
Heavy Days acknowledges that life can feel difficult sometimes. That’s part of being human.
But The Bolden Hour is the reminder that we’re not powerless within those days.
Even when things feel heavy, there is still a moment- sometimes a small one- where we get to choose how we respond.
To try.
To step forward.
To trust ourselves just enough to begin.
A small question
So here’s something I’m curious about.
What was your Bolden Hour?
Maybe it happened today. Maybe it happened years ago.
But there was probably a moment where you decided to step outside your comfort zone and see what would happen.
Those moments matter.
And they’re worth sharing.
Because sometimes hearing someone else’s Bolden Hour is exactly what someone else needs to find their own.
