Journal Entry: The Feather

I’ve been spending a lot of time recently thinking about something that seems quite small on the surface- the logo.

But the more I’ve worked on Heavy Days, the more I’ve realised that a logo isn’t just a design. It’s a symbol. Something that carries meaning, even when it’s simple.

And that’s what I kept coming back to.

What does Heavy Days actually represent?

It’s not just about the difficult days. It’s about what those days lead to. The idea that even when things feel heavy, they don’t stay that way forever.

That thought stuck with me.

And somehow, it led me to a feather.

Why a feather

A feather feels like the opposite of heavy.

Light. Soft. Almost weightless.

Something that moves with the wind rather than against it.

And I liked the idea that what feels heavy now… might not always feel that way.

That over time, things can lift.

That whatever someone is going through, there’s a point where it starts to feel lighter. Where it begins to move, to shift, to change.

Almost like it floats away.

That’s what the feather started to represent.

Not ignoring the heavy days but reminding people they don’t last forever.

A strange pattern

What’s been interesting is that while I was working through this idea, I found myself thinking about the logo a lot when I was out walking.

Just going over it in my head.

Does it make sense? Is it too simple? Does it represent the brand properly?

And almost every time I was thinking about it, I’d notice a feather.

On the pavement. On the grass. Just there, randomly.

It happened enough times that I started to notice it properly.

I’m not sure what to make of that. Maybe it’s coincidence. Maybe it’s just one of those things you notice more once it’s in your mind.

But it felt like a quiet confirmation.

Like I was on the right track.

Still evolving

The logo isn’t final.

Like everything with Heavy Days right now, it’s still evolving. Being refined. Thought about. Changed slightly. Revisited.

But the idea behind it feels right.

A feather.

Something simple.

Something light.

A reminder that even when things feel heavy, they won’t always stay that way.

The bigger picture

Heavy Days was never about pretending everything is fine.

It’s about recognising that some days are difficult.

But also believing that those days pass.

That things shift.

That what feels heavy now can, over time, feel lighter.

And if a small symbol like a feather can remind someone of that- even for a moment- then it’s doing its job.

Some days are heavy. Some hours are bold.
