Journal Entry: Taking the Step

Today felt like a small moment on the surface, but a big one underneath.

After a few weeks of working on a design- going back and forth, tweaking details, overthinking parts of it- I finally took a step I’d been thinking about for a while.

I applied for IP protection on it.

It’s one of those things that sounds straightforward when you say it out loud. But when you’re actually building something from scratch, every decision feels like it carries a bit more weight.

You start questioning things.

Is it ready? Is it good enough? Am I thinking too far ahead? Or not far enough?

I probably went through all of those thoughts at some point over the last few weeks.

But today, I decided to just go for it.

Why this moment matters

This isn’t just about protecting a design.

It’s about committing to the idea.

Saying, this matters enough to take seriously.

Heavy Days is still in its early stages. A lot of what I’m doing right now is figuring things out as I go- designs, suppliers, messaging, how everything fits together.

There isn’t a clear path.

Just a series of small decisions.

And today felt like one of those decisions that moves things forward.

A bit of a Bolden Hour

Looking back, this felt like one of those Bolden Hour moments.

Not dramatic.

Not life-changing on the surface.

But a moment where it would have been easy to wait a bit longer. To tweak things again. To hold off until everything felt perfect.

Instead, I chose to take the step.

To back the idea.

To move forward, even if it’s not all figured out yet.

The early stage

There’s something quite exciting about this stage.

Everything is new.

Everything feels possible.

At the same time, there’s a level of uncertainty that comes with it. You don’t know exactly how things will turn out. You’re building something piece by piece, hoping it all comes together.

But moments like today help.

They make it feel real.

Like this is actually happening.

What’s next

There’s still a lot to do.

More designs. More decisions. More things I’ll probably overthink before eventually just going for it.

But that’s part of the process.

Heavy Days was never about everything being perfect.

It’s about building something meaningful, one step at a time.

If there’s one thing I’m starting to realise, it’s this:

You don’t need to have everything figured out to move forward.

Sometimes you just need to take the step.
